September 1st: Bff Tip of the day

As we inch closer to to September 1st, I hope to share as much information as I can to help you feel as prepared and confident as you can!

I like to share questions I get asked most frequently. So here is the tip of the day!

“What questions should I ask the coach”

I always respond …..

“Have questions ready but DON’T OVERDO IT”!!

You should definitely be prepared with a few questions to ask but I suggest not overdoing it.  The first time you connect with a coach is really about just doing that….starting a connection. If you seem more interested in getting through a list of questions (that you probably don’t even care about the answers too) than you are about listening and connecting that might be an issue to a coach.

Be engaged in the conversation, and at the end if there is something they haven’t answered that is of importance to you and your decision than totally ask it! But don’t be consumed with firing off a list of 20 questions, most likely those questions will be answered once you get to campus

BFF TIP:

Here are a few examples of questions that you may consider asking.

“What are the next steps”

This is a good one at the end if you have confusion about anything the coach said. It’s also good to conclude with so you both clearly understand where you are on their list and what steps are next.

“How many players are you looking to bring in my class”

This question is good to get a feel for how many players they are looking to bring in. If you are on their top of 30 players but they are only bringing in 6 , than yes you do have a chance for sure but it’s still a reach

“What position do you see me playing”

Positions change all the time even at the college level. I have watched players come in as midfielders and immediately moved to defense or attack. So nothing is really set in stone. However, if you are in between positions, let’s say midfield or defense than it’s okay to ask them where they see you playing so you have some sense of what they are expecting

“What is your timeline for finalizing your class”?

This question will help you gauge how quickly you need to get to campuses and make decisions. Some coaches will wait, others have strict timelines, again every school is different. By asking the question it helps you understand their expectations a little better

BFF Final thoughts:

As you navigate through the conversations, there will be times to ask questions and make sure you do! However, try and listen and be as engaged and real as possible.  Be YOURSELF. That is my best advice!

Enjoy the journey! (Or at least fake it until you make it)!

xoxo
